My favorite author Barbara Goss recommended a group on Facebook for readers called Pioneer Hearts. On her recommendation I joined, and found out that it is much more than just a Facebook group. It is a community. If you like cowboys, historical fiction, romance, westerns, etc., you should join this group. To my delight I found this magical series. A fairy tale and historical romance balled up into one, pure bliss!

I absolutely adore the story Cinderella. Let's just say I am a big kid at heart, so when I found this series on Pioneer Hearts, I was captivated immediately. At the moment I found this series The Stepmother came out, and I bought it. I realized it was part of a series, and asked the author which one I should start out with. I love it when authors take the time to interact with their readers. It means a lot to me. It shows that the author actually cares, and you are not just a transaction. She suggested I start with Ella even though Little Red came out first. So that is what I did.

I thought that this was a brilliantly written take on Cinderella. It wasn't too explicit, which is what I liked most about it. Usually I stick to Clean Christian Romance/inspirational novels, but due to my love of fairy tales I decided to give it a try, and I am glad I did. Ian is a disabled war veteran and avid animal rescuer. He is reclusive and lives in the past until he meets Ella that is. He is captivated by Ella during their first encounter. Ella true to the original story does all the housework, and is not permitted to leave. However that is where the similarities end. She is not to fond of animals, and doesn't understand why they like her so much. Originally Ella's goal is to get her stepsisters married off so life could be more bearable. The last thing she expected was meet a prince of her own. Ella needs to go into town to get fabric for her stepsisters dresses, but fears her stepfather won't let her. She convinces him that only she can pick out the fabric that is needed. Reluctantly her stepfather allows her to go to town to purchase material for his daughter's dresses, but with supervision. He never lets her leave the ranch. She tried to escape once, and learned a brutal lesson, and vows never to do that again. Her stepfather maintains control over her, and once he finds out that she went to the same shop twice to find material for her stepdaughter's dresses for the social event of the year, the 4th of July Picnic, he forbids Ian's name to ever be mentioned in his house or he will ruin/take care of Ian. Her stepfather is the second most powerful man in town, and has more leverage than Ian or does he?? Her love for Ian, and fear of her stepfather makes her realize that she is destined not to have a happily ever after. Her stepfather just wants a housekeeper, and seamstress for free. He could care less about Ella. What lengths will Ian go through to make sure they get their happily ever after? You will have to read it to find out! You will not be disappointed! Can love truly conquer all?

Highly recommended to anyone who loves fairy tales! I loved this book! I consider this a steal at 2.99. The tone of the book is cheerful even though both of the main characters are going through personal hardships!

Ella an Everland Ever After Tale eBook Caroline Lee Reviews

This is the story of Cinderella set in the Old West. The premise of this series is that magical things happen in the town of Everland, complete with a set of Fairy Godmothers who help the citizens find their perfect partner. Although the love-at-first-sight aspect of their relationship seemed a bit hard to believe, this IS a fairy tale! Of course I hated the way Ella was treated by her family, it was really depressing to think people could be treated that badly. In this story it is a wicked step father instead of step mother. Other changes make the old story done in a completely different way, which make it fresh and interesting. Liked the love story and the different way the "prince" rescued her. There are many amusing tongue-in-cheek nods to other fairy tale and fable characters in the town and in this story.
I read this book in one evening—It is a delightful modern-day version of Cinderella. There are no glass slippers here—Ella wears a worn pair of cowboy boots. The stepmother is replaced by a stepfather who worked her mother to death and then slotted Ellen into her place to do the cooking, cleaning, and catering to her stepsisters. Fearing that Ella will meet someone and leave, he keeps her isolated on the ranch and has someone assigned to watch her constantly.

Ella’s Prince Charming is a war veteran, who had come to town a few years ago and started a business. He has isolated himself from the community because he cringes from the look on peoples face when they see his impairment. He lives by himself, with a circle of dogs who are also damaged.

This is heart warming story –the Cinderella theme is obvious, but the characters and the situation are unique and very different than the original ones. I felt for Ella, resented her sisters, was glad that she found a couple of allies, in spite of her evil stepfather. I liked Ian Crowne a lot. Together he and Ella found the possibility of something that they never imagined could exist…if Ella could ever break away from her prison to be with him.

If I had one complaint, it was that the book isn’t very long; yet when I thought about that, I realized that it didn’t need to be any longer. The story was complete.

I highly recommend this for an afternoon break—or a space of time when you want to be carried away to another world for a few hours!
I LOVED this! I am a huge fan of fairy tales, and this definitely does the Cinderella story justice. There was so much to love and it was such a fun read. Ian Crowne is a wounded veteran who lives so much in the past, he names his dogs after the battles that affected him. He is one to love, though, and when he meets Ella, the chemistry is just perfection. I could gush for hours. The names of the other townsfolk had me chuckling, and I know this is going to be a series of fairy tale adaptions, and I cannot wait for more!
I just LOVED this adaptation of Cinderella. I am a sucker for any adaptations of fairy tales or classics that don't denigrate the original intent of the story and Caroline Lee perfectly captured the essence of Cinderella! From the minute I picked it up I began to get invested in each character and was thankful that even the "heroes" of the story had flaws, however slight. Ian was charming and funny and I liked the way he interacted with the townsfolk, coming out of the protective shell in which he cowered for too long. Maisey was a wonderful character that brought out the side of Ella that we didn't necessarily see before.
The story was sweet, fresh and I look forward to reading many more from Caroline Lee!
